Teaching Children About Money ! Maybe you’re raising a miser whose lawn-mowing money is accumulating under the mattress. Maybe you’ve got a greedy Gus who thinks money grows on trees. Kids pick up on our own unspoken messages, and most of us don’t set the best example when it comes to personal finance. For better or worse, the best way to raise financially savvy adults is to start young. “You can begin [teaching] financial responsibility as young as three if there is interest,” says   Suzanne Landers Zavatsky, owner of the Money Sense Academy in Boston, which offers classes for parents and children. “The earlier you start sharing money conversations, the more natural it becomes.” Some tips to get you started: Start young.  Even the littlest kids like to learn about money--as long as they can see it in action. Zavatsky suggests starting with the “notion of exchange.” Teach your preschooler that stores don’t just give you things; let them see you handing ov...

Pressure, Stress, and the Gifted Student

Pressure, Stress, and the Gifted Student Although it may seem that gifted students are lucky to have been bestowed with intellect and talent, such a classification can come with problems of its own. In fact, gifted students can experience high levels of stress to excel at everything they do.  Because of their gifts, gifted students also tend to be more perceptive than other children when it comes to picking up on environmental cues, so they may be more sensitive to judgments from others (both real and perceived), as well as sometimes feel overloaded and overwhelmed by information. A lifetime of high expectations can lead gifted students to be extremely hard on themselves as they strive for increasingly higher standards and packed schedules.  Gifted students are usually placed in school environments that are filled with pressure. Although students often need these accelerated tracks to keep them from getting bored in school, the demands of b...

When to use a Mobile Tower

by Alan Collins If you need to work high up, whether that's for hanging advertising, carrying out building work, or electrical work like fitting lights, you need to be able to get up there and work safely. The traditional way of working high up is using a ladder. If you're working for any length of time, or need better reach or access, you know a ladder is a lousy way of getting up in the air. You can only reach a small area, you can't put any decent push behind tools like drills as it destabilises you, and you can't have much equipment with you, which can mean lots of running up and down the ladder swapping tools if they're big. You could use a cherry picker or scissor lift, machines which lift you up in to the air. Some people find cherry pickers to be awkward as the bucket you sit in can sway a little, and you wouldn't want to be sitting in one in strong wind. Scissor lifts are good, if you can manoeuvre them in to position and have enough open access...
